Almost a year ago, I spent a whole weekend at the National Park Veluwezoom in the Netherlands, a 50 km2 forest area - the largest/oldest here. I searched high and low with my bike for wildlife but I couldn't find any.

Desperate, and disheartened, just after sunset, I was making my way back. And then in a most magical moment, I stumbled upon these beauties in the middle of the forest! In that instant, it seemed like time froze. Most of the shots were handheld, with some long shutter speeds of up to 1/10 s! The highlanders were so still that I was able to contemplate them and capture them from many different perspectives until finally, they said goodbye!

I was blissed out by this first encounter with the wild highlanders! When the wind blows, their fluffyness makes them so cute. Hair in the wind, they look at you with a straight, almost stoic gaze… Priceless! 🌬️🍃
